Problem

My 6hp Suzuki dinghy outboard suddenly would not start. The starter cord pulled normally but the engine would not fire. The primer bulb also never became firm.

Fix

  1. 1

I checked the fuel tank and fuel line first. The primer bulb stayed soft even after pumping it several times. So I replaced the filter with a spare and reconnected the fuel line. After priming the bulb again, it became firm and the engine started immediately.

  2. 2

I removed the inline fuel filter and noticed it was full of dirt and small particles. So I replaced the filter with a spare and reconnected the fuel line. After priming the bulb again, it became firm and the engine started immediately.
